Audio File 2: Evgeny Klimin and Yulia Migunova

V–A–C Sreda online magazine completes its three-month series of podcasts dedicated to the interrelation of art, technology, and landscape.

In this final episode, we publish a piece by Evgeny Klimin, a composer and creator of sound art installations. Performed with the cellist Yulia Migunova, the piece was recorded using an instrument called the Moottorikko (Finnish for “motor-harp”), an object designed by Klimin as part of the ColLab programme at the Vaults Centre for Artistic Production in 2023.

The Moottorikko outwardly resembles the jouhikko (Finnish: jouhikko), a Karelian-Finnish folk instrument, however, the sound it produces is not of strings but of electric motors. The resulting composition sounds like a dialogue between noisy production machines and the classical voice of a cello.

For full submersion, we recommend using headphones.
