Sound of Water: in
the Flow of Music

V–A–C Sreda online magazine, in collaboration with the audio platform Tolk, presents a new three-month series of podcasts dedicated to water and its meaning in culture, art and folklore.

In the first podcast, we’ll talk about water in sound art. How do composers reflect the splashing and murmur of water in their work? What are hydrophones, field recordings, and wet percussion? Why can ambient be called the most watery genre, and how does it relate to Japanese philosophy?

Maxim Shibaev, editor of V–A–C Sreda, discussed these and other issues with musician and creator of the ricaai project Roman Zharov, whose composition sounds at the beginning of the podcast, as well as with curator and interdisciplinary artist Olga Zubova and sound artist Daria Oryshak, who talked about sound art in terms of art history and culture.
